Week of February 29th 2016

This week…

    Over the next three weeks, students will continue to learn about buildings. Young children are curious about buildings and given the fact that buildings are everywhere in our community this unit connects to their everyday life experiences.. In this unit the children will explore and expand their knowledge and understanding of building materials and physical forces. They will work together to find the answers to our theme questions; which include: What do buildings in our neighborhood and other places look like? Who builds buildings? What are buildings made of? What tools are used to make buildings? What makes buildings strong? What happens inside buildings? 

     As we learned about this topic the children will be given opportunities to investigate buildings from many different perspectives, for example they explored important concepts of physical science and social studies as they observe, gather data, explored the topic. They practiced math concepts such as sorting by color and size, comparing heights of different buildings, and learned number concepts as we count the buildings on our block. 

Esta semana…

     Durante las siguientes tres semanas, los estudiantes continuarán aprendiendo acerca de los edificios. Los niños pequeños son curiosos sobre los edificios y dado el hecho de que los edificios están por todas partes en nuestra comunidad esta unidad se conecta a sus experiencias de la vida cotidiana .En esta unidad los niños van a explorar y expandir su conocimiento y comprensión de los materiales de construcción y las fuerzas físicas. Van a trabajar juntos para encontrar las respuestas a nuestras preguntas temáticos; los cuales incluyen: ¿Qué edificios en nuestro barrio y otros lugares se parecen? ¿Quién construye edificios? De que están hechas de edificios? ¿Qué herramientas se utilizan para hacer los edificios? Que hace que los edificios fuerte? ¿Qué ocurre dentro de los edificios?
     
    Mientras aprendemos acerca de este tema los niños tendrán la oportunidad de investigar los edificios desde muchos puntos de vista diferentes, por ejemplo exploraron conceptos importantes de la ciencia física y estudios sociales al observar, recopilar datos, explorado el tema. Practicaban los conceptos matemáticos, como la clasificación por color y tamaño, comparando las alturas de los diferentes edificios, y aprendieron los conceptos numéricos mientras contamos los edificios de la cuadra.

At home you can…

Say some pairs of words and let your child tell you if their beginning sounds are the same (as in mouse and mat) or different (as in tall and pan).

Through repeated playing, your child may begin to pay more attention to the important sounds that come at the beginnings of words.

By playing this game your child will practice focusing on the beginning sounds in words and she may begin using the words same and different in describing sounds and words. Hearing the beginning sounds of words is an important step in understanding that a word is made up of a series of sounds. The skill of hearing the individual sounds in words will be used later by your child in spelling and reading.

En casa usted puede ... 

Di algunos pares de palabras y deje que su hijo/a que le diga si sus sonidos iniciales son los mismos (como en el ratón y rastro) o diferentes (como en altura y pareja).

A través de juego repetido, su hijo/a puede comenzar a prestar más atención a los sonidos importantes que entran en los inicios de palabras.

Al jugar este juego el niño/a se centra en la práctica el principio sonidos en las palabras y ella puede comenzar a usar las palabras iguales y diferentes en la descripción de los sonidos y las palabras. Al oír los sonidos iniciales de las palabras es un paso importante en la comprensión de que una palabra se compone de una serie de sonidos. La habilidad de oír los sonidos individuales en las palabras será utilizado más tarde por su hijo/a en la escritura y la lectura.

•      Please do not give your child any snacks with peanuts because we have a student with allergies.
•      Please return the survey, so that we can mail them out.
• On Wednesday we will be celebrating Dr.Seuss Day, your child may come dressed-up as one of the characters in his books.
• Easter Recess March 21st - April 1st School Resumes April 4^th.

•    Por favor, no darle a su hijo/a cualquier aperitivos con los cacahuetes porque tenemos un estudiante con alergias.
• El miércoles estaremos celebrando el Día Dr.Seuss, su hijo/a puede venir disfrazado como uno de los personajes de sus libros.
• Por favor, devuelva la encuesta, por lo que podemos enviarlos por correo.
•  Receso de Pascua  es el 21 demarzo hasta el 1 de abril. Las clases enpesaran el 4 de abril.

This week…

Name spelling Game:

Using letter flash cards, teach your child to spell his/her name.

Materials

• Index cards
• Pen or marker

Directions

1. Print each letter in your child's name on an index card. (For those students who already know to spell and write their name, print each letter in your child's last name.)
2. Lay them out to spell your child's name.
3. Mix them up and have her try to put them back in the proper order.

En casa usted puede ... 

Juego para aprende a deletrial nombre:
El uso de tarjetas de memoria flash carta, enseñar a su niño/a  a deletrear su nombre.

Materiales

• Fichas
• Bolígrafo o lapiz

Direcciones
1. Imprimir cada letra de el nombre de su hijo/a en una tarjeta. (Para aquellos alumnos que ya saben deletrear y escribir su nombre, imprimir cada letra en el apellido de su hijo/a.)
2. Ponga las targeta en el pizo o en la mesa fuera de orden.
3. Pidale asu hijo/a que trate de volver a ponerlos en el orden correcto.

•     Tuesday, February 23^rd is Hippie Day!  Your child can come to school dressed up as a hippie. There will be a contest for the best costume! 
• Please remember that breakfast ends at 8:00 am. If you wish your child to eat breakfast after this time, you must go with him/her to the cafeteria and eat in there.

Week of February 8th 2016

This week…

This will be our sixth and final week learning about balls.  As we learned about this topic the children have been given opportunities to investigate balls from many different perspectives, for example they explored important concepts of physical science and social studies as they observe, gather data, explored the topic. They practiced math concepts such as sorting by color and size, comparing weights of ball, and learned number concepts as we counted balls.

This week we will be looking at what is inside of different types of balls. We will analyze and compare why some balls bounce, roll and float and others don't.  

Esta semana…

Esta será nuestra sexta y última semana aprendiendo sobre las bolas. Mientras hemos aprendido acerca de este tema a los niños se les ha dado la oportunidad de investigar las bolas desde muchos puntos de vista diferentes, por ejemplo exploraron conceptos importantes de la ciencia física y estudios sociales al observar, recopilar datos, explorado el tema. Practicaban los conceptos matemáticos, como la clasificación por color y tamaño, comparando los pesos de pelota, y aprendieron los conceptos numéricos que contamos con las bolas.

Esta semana vamos a estar mirando lo que está dentro de los diferentes tipos de bolas. Vamos a analizar y comparar qué algunas pelotas rebotan, rodar y flotar y otros no.

•     On Tuesday we will have a valentine day show at 9:00 am in the school cafeteria. Your child should wear a red top and black bottom (pant or skirt).
•     If possible, I would appreciate a $5 donation for our valentine day celebration on Tuesday.

•     If you have one of the ziploc bag with a "home- school connection activity" please return it so that I can send a bag with a new activities home with your child this week.
