Week of November 30th 2015

This week…

The students have been enjoying learning about reduce, reuse, recycle. I am proud of how much they have already learned during only two weeks of exploring the topic and how much they have been doing at home with you. This week we will look at where we should throw away different items such as plastics, metals and paper; and where trash goes after we throw it away.

As we start our journey to learn about reduce, reuse, recycle we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Please speak with your child about what he/she learned at school everyday to reinforce their learning. 

Esta semana…

Los alumnos han disfrutado aprendiendo sobre reducir, reutilizar, reciclar. Estoy orgulloso de lo mucho que han aprendido durante sólo dos semanas de explorar el tema y lo mucho que han estado haciendo en casa con ustedes. Esta semana vamos a ver dónde debemos tirar diferentes elementos tales como plásticos, metales y papel; y donde la basura va después de que la tiramos a la basura.

A medida que continuamos en nuestro camino para aprender sobre la reducir, reutilizar y reciclar la basura vamos a aprender conceptos y habilidades en alfabetización, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, las artes y la tecnología. También utilizaremos habilidades de pensamiento para investigar, hacer preguntas, resolver problemas, hacer predicciones, y poner a prueba nuestras ideas. Por favor, hable con su hijo/a sobre lo que él / ella aprendió en la escuela todos los días para reforzar su aprendizaje.

At home you can…

     Use picture cards and the words first, next, and last to teach your child a simple recipe. You child’s ability to remember the order of events in a process will improve. This game provides a fun situation for learning sequencing. Your child will see that some events happen in a given order. Following a recipe builds skills that will help him remember the order of events. Many tasks such as telling a story, bathing, dressing, or riding a bicycle must be done in a particular order to be successful.

     As you do these activities with your child explain the next step and ask for his/her help. For example “next, we have to put the JELL-O® and the hot water together. How could we do that? “Wait for his/her suggestion and respond: “Right, we put them in the bowl and mix them. That’s the next step. Let me put that on the card.”

En casa usted puede ...

     Usar tarjetas con imágenes y las palabras primero, siguiente y última para enseñar a su hijo/a una receta sencilla. La capacidad de su hijo/a para recordar el orden de los acontecimientos en un proceso que mejorará. Este juego ofrece una situación divertida para aprender secuenciación. Su niño/a verá que algunos acontecimientos suceden en un orden determinado. Siguiendo una receta desarrolla habilidades que le ayudarán a recordar el orden de los acontecimientos. Muchas tareas como contar una historia, bañarse, vestirse, o andar en bicicleta se deben hacer en un orden determinado para tener éxito.

    Al hacer estas acitivites con su hijo/a explique el siguiente paso y piden su hijo/a ayuda. Por ejemplo, "siguiente, tenemos que poner el JELL-O® y el agua caliente juntos. ¿Cómo podemos hacer eso? "Espere que su hijo/a responda:" Claro, los ponemos en el bol y mezclamos. Ese es el siguiente paso. Déjame ponerlo en la tarjeta ".

Reminders:

•           Please bring in gift paper, paper towel and toilet paper tubes, as well as boxes; so that we can reuse them and create an art project with them.
•        Please do not give your child any snacks with peanuts because we have a student with allergies.
•        Ms. Reyes will be offsite on Thursday December 3^rd due to a city-wide professional development meeting for all UPK teachers.
•       According to the Department of Health, your child should be vaccinated with the flu shot before January 1^st.

•  Por favor traiga los tubo de papel de regalo,  toallas de papel y papel de bano, tambien cajas; para que podamos reutilizarlos y crear un proyecto de arte con ellos.

•              La Sra Reyes estará fuera de la clase el jueves 03 de diciembre debido a una reunion para el desarrollo profesional en toda la ciudad para todos los maestros de UPK.
• De acuerdo con el Departamento de Salud, su hijo/a debe ser vacunado con la vacuna contra la gripe antes del 1 de enero.

This week…

This week we will look at different people who wear special clothes (uniform). We will focus on things such as who wears a uniform and why? We will also look at the people in our families who wear uniform and share what they do with our class.

As we continue on our journey to learn about clothes we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Please speak with your child about what he/she learned at school every day to reinforce their learning.

Esta semana vamos a ver cómo la ropa se hace y de dónde sacamos la ropa. Nos centraremos en cosas tales como; cómo la gente usa máquinas de coser, tejidos de punto, crochet, cómo la ropa consigue sus diferentes colores, así como qué tipo de ropa encontramos en las tiendas de ropa, cómo están organizada en la tienda su es como nuestros armarios en casa, hay tiendas de ropa en nuestra comunidad, etc.

A medida que continuamos en nuestro camino para aprender sobre la ropa vamos a aprender conceptos y habilidades en alfabetización, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, las artes y la tecnología. También utilizaremos habilidades de pensamiento para investigar, hacer preguntas, resolver problemas, hacer predicciones, y poner a prueba nuestras ideas. Por favor, hable con su hijo/a sobre lo que él / ella aprendió en la escuela todos los días para reforzar su aprendizaje.

At home you can…

Counting games offer your child practice using the words from 1 to 10 (or more, if she/he is ready) in sequence. The numerical system in our country is based on 10. When a child masters 10s, it is a good start on the whole system.

   

 Practice counting with pegs, crayons, or clothespins. You can also use motions such as walking up stairs, hopping on one foot, or clapping your hands to count. Say the number clearly as you illustrate it. Encourage

your child to say the number during the action.

En casa usted puede ...

Juegos de contar ofrecen a su hijo/a a practicar el uso de las palabras de 1 a 10 (o más, si ella/el está lista) en secuencia. El sistema numérico en nuestro país se basa en 10. Cuando su niño/a ha aprendido hasta el 10s, es un buen comienzo en todo el sistema.

 Practique contando con las clavijas, crayones o pinzas de la ropa. También puede usar movimientos como subir escaleras, saltar en un pie, o aplaudir sus manos para contar. Diga el número claramente como ilustrarla. Alentar a su hijo/a a decir el número durante la acción.

•        There is no school on Wednesday.
•        Class pictures will be taken on Friday, November 13th 2015. Please send your child to school with their uniform.
•        Parent/Teacher meetings will be on November 20^th.

This week…

This week we will look at how clothes is made and where do we get our clothes. We will focus on things such as how people use sewing machines, knits, crochets, how clothes gets its different colors as well as what types of clothes we find in clothing stores, how are clothes organized in a store is it like our closets at home, are there any clothing stores in our community, etc.

As we continue on our journey to learn about clothes we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Please speak with your child about what he/she learned at school every day to reinforce their learning.

At home you can…

 Talk with your child about clothes. Examine the fabrics together and discuss how the clothes were made. Look at the labels to find out where the clothes were made and identify the fabric. Look at pictures from the past and note how the clothing differs from clothing today.

  Teach your child to stitch. Use a large plastic needle and yarn; make stitches on burlap or felt.

 When you shop for clothes, help your child notice how clothes are organized in the store and offer a simple explanation of how you compare prices.

En casa usted puede ...

 Hable con su hijo/a sobre la ropa. Examine los tejidos juntos y discuten cómo se hicieron las ropas. Mira las etiquetas para averiguar dónde se hicieron las ropas e identificar la tela. Miren fotos  del pasado y observe cómo la ropa se diferencia de la ropa de hoy.

  Enseñe a su hijo/a  la puntada. Utilice una aguja grande de plástico e hilo; hacer puntos de sutura en la arpillera o fieltro.

 Cuando usted valla de compras para la ropa, ayudar a su niño/a notifical cómo se organizan la ropa en la tienda y ofrecen una explicación sencilla de cómo se comparan los precios.

•       This week there will be a canned food and turkey drive, if you wish to make a donation there will be a box in the classroom where these itmes will be collected. Thank you!

Esta semana vamos a ver cómo las personas hacen la ropa. Nos centraremos en las cosas tales como; cómo las personas toman un patrón y luego se corta para hacer ropa, cómo la gente usa máquinas de coser, tejidos de punto, crochet, cómo la ropa consigue sus diferentes colores, etc.

A medida que continuamos en nuestro camino para aprender sobre la ropa vamos a aprender conceptos y habilidades en alfabetización, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, las artes y la tecnología. Home school connection

     Children like to try new ways to move, and they like to do what you do. You can make it fun to practice the following and leading skills that grow into cooperation. Knowing the names for her actions allows her to better explain what is happening. When she can describe what she is doing, she can take the leader’s role in many games.

     Use motions you have noticed your child learning, such as: hopping on one foot, skipping a step, jumping with both feet, etc. Use a single word to describe each action so that she can easily repeat the word. Try nod, tap, clap, jump, bend, or march. She will interpret the word by watching your actions.

Conexión entre la escuela y el hogar

   A los niños les gusta ensayar nuevas maneras de moverse y les gusta hacer lo que hacen los adultos. Usted podrá hacer que su niña/o se divierta poniendo en práctica destrezas de seguimiento y liderazgo que dan lugar a la cooperación. Aprender los nombres para las acciones le permitirá explicar mejor lo que ocurre. Cuando el/ella pueda describir lo que hace, podrá ser líder en muchos juegos. 

   Utilice movimientos que su niña/o haya aprendido como saltar en un solo pie, brincar con los dos

pies juntos, caminar hacia los lados o caminar hacia atrás, etc. Use una sola palabra para describir cada acción para que la niña/o pueda repetir la palabra con facilidad. Ensaye con zapatea, palmotea, brinca, agáchate o marcha. El/ella interpretará la palabra observando las acciones que usted haga.

•  If you wish to make a donation to the classroom we will appreciate: Shaving cream and lotion (for sensitive skin),  boxes of tissue, white printing paper,  and   simple decorations for thanksgiving.

• We will have our first monthly meeting on Thursday at 8:30 am.
• Please remember that on Friday we will have our Halloween parade followed by a fall classroom celebration. Your child may wear a costume, please no accessories that could be used as a weapon. You may come in the morning and take pictures of your child.
• There are forms available in the office for Flynn and O'Hara uniform company. Parents in the PreK classes must indicate if their child is in the PreK For All program in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School. Any questions please call Alba at 212-567-3190.
