Week of May 31st 2016

This week…

In our classroom we have mentioned a couple of things about kindergarten throughout the school year so that the transition process is successful for our students. However, over the next three weeks we will go more in depth on the topic. Students will share their ideas, expectations and feeling about kindergarten as well as look at some kindergarten classroom in person, online and on pictures. Over the next three weeks, we will focus more on the academic skills need for kindergarten such as number and letter recognition, letter sounds, number writing, simple addition and subtraction and literature.

Esta semana…
En nuestra clase hemos mencionado un par de cosas acerca de Kinder durante todo el año escolar para que el proceso de transición sea exitoso para nuestros estudiantes. Sin embargo, durante las próximas tres semanas vamos a ir más a fondo sobre el tema. Los estudiantes compartirán sus ideas, expectativas y sensación sobre la kínder, vamos a ver salón de kínder en persona, en el internet y en las fotografías. Durante las próximas tres semanas, nos concentraremos más en las habilidades académicas necesidad de kínder, como el reconocimiento del número y las letras, sonidos de las letras, la escritura de los números, sumas y restas simples y la literatura.

                      

At home you can…

Help your child be ready for Kindergarten:

• Read to their child every day
• Provide crayons for drawing and scissors for cutting
• Do playful number activities such as counting, telling the number before and after a quantity, and telling how much you have when there is one more or one less than a quantity
• Offer markers, Legos, and other small manipulatives to support development of their child’s grasp and fine motor coordination
• Give their child opportunities to make decisions and smart choices
• Institute early bedtimes and provide healthy meals

En casa usted puede...

Ayude a su niño/a a estar listo para el Kinder:

• Lea a su hijo/a todos los días
•  Proveer lápices de colores para dibujar y tijeras para cortar.
•  Hacer actividades divertidas tales como contar mientras suben las escaleras, dicir el número antes y después de una cantidad, y contando la cantidad que tiene cuando no es uno más o uno menos que una cantidad 
• Delen botones de color, marcadores, Legos y otros manipulativos pequeños para apoyar el desarrollo de la comprensión de su hijo/a y la coordinación motora fina.
•  Delen a sus niños/as la oportunidades para tomar decisiones y elecciones inteligentes 
• Tenga un tiempo y rutina para ir a la cama temprano y proporcionar comidas saludables

*Our "Moving Up" ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 23rd 2016 at 11:00am in the cafeteria. Each student may have 4 guest attend the ceremony. I will be sending invitations in June.

*Please do not give your child snack containing peanut due to allergies in the classroom.

     * Please check your child’s cubby and insure he/she has 3 changes of clothes that are weather appropriate and that it fit him/she.

      * Please remember that pick up for our students begins at 2:45 pm. If your child is not picked up by 3:00 pm he/she will be taken to the after school program.

Recordatorios: 

* Nuestra ceremonia de “Moving Up” se llevará a cabo el jueves 23 de de junio de 2016 a las 11:00 am en la cafetería. Cada estudiante puede tener 4 invitados asistir a la ceremonia. Les voy a enviar invitaciones en junio.

*Por favor, no darle a su hijo/a cualquier aperitivos con los cacahuetes porque tenemos un estudiante con alergias.

*Por favor miren en los cubbie de su hijo/a y asegurarse de que él / ella tiene 3 cambios de ropa que sea apropiada para la temporada.

*Por favor, recuerde que recoger para nuestros estudiantes comienza a las 2:45 pm. Si su niño no es recogido a las 3:00 pm él / ella va a ser llevado al programa después de clases.

Week of May 23rd 2016

This week…

        Our students have been very interested and engaged with this unit and because of this I have extended it one more week to further their learning. This unit, like all Pre-K for All units, provides opportunities for children to observe objects and phenomena in their environment with increasing complexity, and apply knowledge and skills learned in previous units. Activities throughout the unit prompt children to learn about plants through hands-on explorations and provide opportunities to observe plants in their immediate environment.

Throughout this unit, there are opportunities to develop children’s literacy and language skills. Children will enjoy literature, engage in discussions around stories, and retell and act out stories they have read. Children will build on what they know about plants through informational texts. They will explore new vocabulary words such as “habitat” and “nutrients” to continue to develop their language skills as they engage in scientific explorations and thinking.

I encourage you to find and observe plants with your child. You can talk about what the plants looks like, how they smells, the way they feel, their colors, etc. After observing the plants write or draw about it and send the activity you do with your child back to the class so your child can show it to the class and display it in the classroom.

Esta semana…

          Nuestros estudiantes han estado muy interesados y comprometidos con esta unidad y debido a esto me lo han ampliado una semana más para avanzar en su aprendizaje. Esta unidad, al igual que todos los pre-K para todas las unidades, ofrece oportunidades para que los niños observan los objetos y fenómenos en su entorno con el aumento de la complejidad y aplican sus conocimientos y habilidades aprendidas en las unidades anteriores. Actividades a lo largo de los niños rápidos de la unidad para aprender acerca de las plantas a través de manos en exploraciones y proporcionan oportunidades para observar las plantas en su entorno inmediato.

A lo largo de esta unidad, hay oportunidades para desarrollar las habilidades de alfabetización de los niños y de lenguaje. Los niños disfrutarán de la literatura, participar en debates en torno a las historias, y volver a contar y representar historias que han leído. Los niños podrán construir sobre lo que saben acerca de las plantas a través de textos informativos. Se explorarán nuevas palabras de vocabulario como "hábitat" y "nutrientes" para continuar desarrollando sus habilidades lingüísticas que se dediquen a la exploración científica y el pensamiento.

Los animo a encontrar y observar las plantas con su hijo/a. Ustedes pueden hablar hacer de cosas tal cuales, como las plantas se ven, cómo huele, cómo se sienten, sus colores, etc. Después de observar las plantas pueden escribir o dibujar sobre lo qu enotaron y enviar la actividad que realiza con su hijo/a a la clase para que su hijo/a la mostre a la clase y despues ponerlas en la clase.

Help your child be ready for Kindergarten:

Encouraging self-help skills is an important step to preparing your child for kindergarten. Allow and encourage them to: 

• Get coats on and off and hang them up 
• Follow simple two-step instructions such as "take off your boots and put on your sneakers"
• Go to the bathroom and wash their hands 
• Blow their nose and cover their mouth when they cough 
• Fasten and unfasten simple buttons and snaps 
• Eat neatly and pour into a cup 
• Open up a juice box and get the straw in.

En casa usted puede...

Ayude a su niño/a a estar listo para el Kinder:
El fomento de las habilidades de autoayuda es un paso importante para preparar a su hijo/a para el kindergarten. Permite y anime a su hijo/a a que:

• Ponerse su abrigo
• Siga las instrucciones simples de dos pasos, tales como "quitarse las botas y póngase las zapatillas"
• Ir al baño y lavarse las manos
• Soplarse la nariz y cubrirse la boca al toser
• Abrochar y desabrochar botones simples y broches
• Comer cuidadosamente y tomar en una taza
• Abre una caja de jugo y entral el sorberto en ella.

This week…

        This week we will continue our unit of study plants, this unit will last one more weeks. This unit, like all Pre-K for All units, provides opportunities for children to observe objects and phenomena in their environment with increasing complexity, and apply knowledge and skills learned in previous units. At home you can…

Count from 0 – 20.

This is a skill that is essential!  Be sure your child knows at least 0 – 10 before starting Kindergarten.  Just like with the ABC’s, you can count anytime!  Spend a minute here or there counting, point out how many of something there are (“Wow!  There are two doggies walking outside!”) and eventually start asking your child to identify how many there are (“Look at the doggies outside!  Maia, how many doggies are there?”)

*Hint: Many kids get confused after 10 so be patient!  Always correct your child’s mistakes calmly and then move one!

Esta es una habilidad que es esencial! Asegúrese de que su hijo/a sepa al menos 0 - 10 antes de comenzar la guardería. Al igual que con el abecedario, puede contar en cualquier momento! Pasa un minuto aquí o allá contando, señalan la cantidad de algo que hay ("Wow! Hay dos perritos que recorren afuera!") Y, finalmente, empezar a preguntar a su hijo/a para identificar cuántos son ("Mira los perritos fuera! Maia , ¿cuántos perritos hay? ")

* Consejo: Muchos niños se confunden después de 10 así que sea paciente! Siempre corregir errores de su hijo con calma y luego ciga!
