Week of January 25th 2016

This week…

This will be our forth week learning about balls.  As we learn about this topic the children will be given opportunities to investigate balls from many different perspectives, for example they will explore important concepts of physical science and social studies as they observe, gather data, explore their community, and meet interesting people. 

This week we will be looking at the different ways balls move and what is inside of them. We will analyze and compare why some balls bounce, roll and float and others don't.  

Esta semana…

Esta semana sera la cuarta semana que estudiamos el temas de bolas, que ofrecerán a los niños oportunidades para investigar objetos desde muchas perspectivas diferentes. Explorarán conceptos importantes de la ciencia física y estudios sociales al observar, recopilar datos, explorar su comunidad y conocer gente interesante.

Esta semana vamos a ver las diferentes formas en que  las bolas se mueven y que tienen adentro. Vamos a analizar y comparar por qué algunas pelotas rebotan, rodar y flotar y otros no. También estaremos aprendiendo sobre las pelotas favoritos de cada uno y los tipos de deportes que jugamos con ellos.

At home you can…

Create a shape book:3 hole punch construction paper (5-10 pages depending on how many shapes u would like your child to learn) Have your child make a cover pages, title Book of Shapes and draw a couple of shapes to decorate. Have your child label each additional page with the name of a shape (square, triangle, octagon, ect) Bind pages with yarn to make a book. Go around the house or yard to find thing that are those shapes... Things we use everyday like tags or caps or buttons. A few items for each shape. Have your kids glue each item they find onto the proper page (according to shape). They have made their own book of shapes to learn with!

En casa usted puede ... 

Crear un libro de formas: Punze 3 hoyos en papel de construcción  (5-10 páginas dependiendo del número de formas que le gustaría que su hijo/a aprenda) Pidale a su niño/a a haga una portada, título del libro de formas y dibujar un par de formas para decorar. Pidale a su niño/a etiquetar cada página adicional con el nombre de una forma (cuadrado, triángulo, octágono, ect) unan las pajinas con hilo para hacer un libro. Valla alrededor de la casa para encontrar cosas que son de esas formas, especialmente objectos que su nijo/a usa tpdo los dias. Motive a su niño/a a que pegue cada elemento que encuentran en la página correcta (de acuerdo con la forma).

• Please do not give your child any snacks with peanuts because we have a student with allergies.
  This Friday, January 28th, there is no school.
• Please remember that breakfast ends at 8:00am. 
   Financial Aid will be available for students entering Kindergarten here at OLQM.  Alba and Brianna in the office will be of assistance in filing for financial aid.  Through the generosity of donors to the Archdiocese this financial aid will be available for ALL students entering Kindergarten in 2016.  An information packet will be sent home this week and Mr. Woods will quickly speak to parents on Thursday, 8:30 AM in the Parent Conference room regarding registration for Kindergarten.

Recordatorios: 

•  Por favor, no darle a su hijo/a cualquier bocadillos con maní, porque en la clase hay una estudiante con allergias.
•  Este viernes,29 de Enero, no hay escuela.
• Por favor recuerde que desayuno termina a las 8:00am. 
• A yuda Financiera estará disponible para estudiantes que ingresan a Kindergarten aquí en OLQM. Alba y Brianna en la oficina los asisteran a aplicarpara ayuda financiera. A través de la generosidad de los donantes a la Arquidiócesis de esta ayuda financiera estará disponible para todos los estudiantes que ingresan a Kindergarten en 2016. Un paquete de información será enviada a casa esta semana y el Sr. Woods hablará con rapidez a los padres el jueves, 8:30 AM en la sala de conferencias sobre la inscripción para el Kindergarten

Week of January 18th 2016

This week…

This will be our third week learning about balls.  As we learn about this topic the children will be given opportunities to investigate balls from many different perspectives, for example they will explore important concepts of physical science and social studies as they observe, gather data, explore their community, and meet interesting people. 

This week we will be looking at the different ways balls move. We will analyze and compare why some balls bounce, roll and float and others don't.  We will also be learning about each other's favorite balls and the types of sports we play with them.

During our journey to learn about balls, I hope the students will meet some of the New York State Common Core Standards for Prekindergarten, which I listed on the lesson plan. (see link on bottom of this post)

Esta semana…

Esta semana sera la segunda semana que estudiamos el temas de bolas, que ofrecerán a los niños oportunidades para investigar objetos desde muchas perspectivas diferentes. Explorarán conceptos importantes de la ciencia física y estudios sociales al observar, recopilar datos, explorar su comunidad y conocer gente interesante.

Esta semana vamos a ver las diferentes formas en que  las bolas se mueven. Vamos a analizar y comparar por qué algunas pelotas rebotan, rodar y flotar y otros no. También estaremos aprendiendo sobre las pelotas favoritos de cada uno y los tipos de deportes que jugamos con ellos.

Durante nuestro viaje para conocer las bolas, espero que los estudiantes aprendan algunas de las normas fundamentales del Estado de Nueva York basada an el Common Core para Prekindergarten, los cuales he puesto en la lection de esta semana.

At home you can…

The Calendar Explain to your child that days, like people, have names. 
Say, "Today's name is (Monday). Tomorrow's name is (Tuesday)."  Show him or her the day's names at the top of the calendar.  Help your child understand the passage of time and how we measure time by the month, day, hour etc. 

Circle special days on the calendar and count how many days until each special day arrives.  The special days can be any day that you and your child will be doing something that your child likes, for example, a visit to grandparents, trip to the zoo, or his/her birthday, etc.

El calendario

Explíquele a su hijo/a que los días, como las personas, tienen nombres.
Diga, "El nombre de hoy es (lunes). El nombre de mañana es (martes)". Demuestrele los nombres del día en la parte superior del calendario. Ayude a su hijo/a a entender el paso del tiempo y cómo medir el tiempo por el mes, día, hora, etc.

Círculo día especial en el calendario y contar cuántos días hasta que llegue cada día especial. Los días especiales pueden ser cualquier día que usted y su hijo/a va a hacer algo que su hijo/a le gusta, por ejemplo, una visita a los abuelos, viaje al zoológico, o su  cumpleaños, etc.
