Week of January 4th 2016

HAPPY NEW YEARS! 

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break.

This week…

Children love balls. They play with them in many different ways: throwing, catching, kicking, and rolling them. Children make balls, marbles, and other rolling objects change speed and direction. They see how natural forces such as gravity and friction affect the movement of balls. Children play traditional games with balls and often invent their own games. 

Starting this week we will start our study of balls, which will offer children opportunities to investigate objects from many different perspectives. They will explore important concepts of physical science and social studies as they observe, gather data, explore their community, and meet interesting people. A study of balls also offers a meaningful way for children to use skills in mathematics, literacy, the arts, and technology.

During our journey to learn about balls, I hope the students will meet some of the New York State Common Core Standards for Prekindergarten.Including:

Esta semana…

Los niños les encanta las bolas. Ellos juegan con ellos de muchas maneras diferentes: lanzar, atrapar, patear y rodando ellos. Los niños hacen bolas, canicas y otros objetos que ruedan cambian la velocidad y la dirección. Ellos ven cómo las fuerzas naturales como la gravedad y la fricción afectan el movimiento de las bolas. Los niños juegan juegos tradicionales con las bolas y, a menudo inventan sus propios juegos.

A partir de esta semana vamos a comenzar nuestro estudio de las bolas, que ofrecerán a los niños oportunidades para investigar objetos desde muchas perspectivas diferentes. Explorarán conceptos importantes de la ciencia física y estudios sociales al observar, recopilar datos, explorar su comunidad y conocer gente interesante. At home you can…

Encourage your child to mold and explore dough while you describe the shapes she makes (encourage them to make "balls" spheres. Your child will begin to connect the shapes she feels with her hands with the shape words she hears you say.

Molding dough gives your child the experience of learning how three-dimensional shapes are formed. The experiences children gain directly through using their hands and fingers leave a special and lasting understanding of the physical world. Easy art exploration can give your child confidence for later creative expressions.

Try making playdough using the following recipe:

2 cups flour 1 cup water

1 cup salt 2 tablespooons cooking oil

2 tablespooons cream of tartar 1 tablespoon food coloring

Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan. Cook over low–medium heat, stirring constantly until it forms a ball. Put the ball on a board and knead for 2–3 minutes. Store the dough in an airtight container between play sessions.

Anime a su hijo/a para moldear y explorar masa mientras usted describe las formas que ella hace (motivelo a hacer bolas). Su hijo/a comenzará a conectar las formas que siente con sus manos con las palabras de la forma que oye usted dice.

Week of December 14th 2015

This week…

The students have been enjoying learning about reduce, reuse, recycle, this will be our last week learning about the topic. During the week we will focus on looking at how we can reuse things at home that is not necessary trash, for example clothes. We will also review everything we have learned in the unit and celebrate our learning by having ‘‘show and tell’’ on Friday.

During our journey to learn about reduce, reuse, recycle we have learned concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll used thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Thank you for speaking with your child about what he/she learned at school every day to reinforce their learning. 

Esta semana…

Los alumnos han podido disfrutar aprendiendo sobre reducir, reutilizar, reciclar, esta será nuestra última semana aprendiendo sobre el tema. Durante la semana nos centraremos en mirar cómo podemos reutilizar cosas en casa que no es basura necesariamente, por ejemplo, la ropa. También repasaremos todo lo que hemos aprendido en la unidad y celebraremos nuestro aprendizaje durante '' mostrar y contar '' el viernes.

Pre-K 5 Week of December 7th 2015

This week…

The students have been enjoying learning about reduce, reuse, recycle. I am proud of how much they have already learned during only three weeks of exploring the topic. This week we will look at how we could reuse certain material. For example we will create musical instruments with items such a empty toilet paper rolls, empty tissue boxes, and bottles. Over the weekend I ask that you please reuse something at home with your child and send it to school next week so that we can display it in the classroom. (Remember I want to see the students work and I’m interested in the process of creating something new not the end product and how it looks).

Los alumnos han disfrutado aprendiendo sobre reducir, reutilizar, reciclar. Estoy orgulloso de lo mucho que han aprendido durante sólo dos tres semanas de explorar el tema. Esta semana vamos a ver como podemos utilizar materials que usalmente tiramos a la basura. Por ejemplo vamos a crear instrumentos musicales con los objetos que vacíos tal como rollos de papel higiénico, cajas de pañuelos vacías y botellas. El fin de semana le pido que por favor vuelve a utilizar algo en casa con su hijo/a y que lo envie a la escuela la próxima semana para que los podamos mostrarlo en la clase. (Recuerden que quiero ver los trabajos de los estudiantes y estoy interesado en el proceso de crear algo nuevo, no el producto final y cómo se ve).

A medida que continuamos en nuestro camino para aprender sobre la reducir, reutilizar y reciclar la basura vamos a aprender conceptos y habilidades en alfabetización, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, las artes y la tecnología. At home you can…

  Give your child something to play with, such as playdough or water,  that can be divided into two parts. You can help your child notice amounts and talk about them using the words more and less.

     Recognizing the difference between two amounts is the basis for many math concepts. Your child will enjoy grouping, dividing, and pouring to create amounts she can label with more and less. Later, she will use her skills to arrange items in a series.

Déle a su hijo/a algo para jugar, como plastilina o el agua, que se puede dividir en dos partes. Usted puede ayudar a su hijo/aa notifical cantidades y  hablar de ellos usando las palabras más y menos.

      Reconociendo la diferencia entre dos cantidades es la base de muchos de los conceptos matemáticos. Su hijo/a disfrutará de agrupación, división, y vertiendo para crear cantidades puede etiquetar con más y menos. Más tarde, el/ella utilizará sus habilidades para organizar los elementos de una serie.

This week…

The students have been enjoying learning about reduce, reuse, recycle. I am proud of how much they have already learned during only two weeks of exploring the topic and how much they have been doing at home with you. This week we will look at where we should throw away different items such as plastics, metals and paper; and where trash goes after we throw it away.

As we start our journey to learn about reduce, reuse, recycle we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Please speak with your child about what he/she learned at school everyday to reinforce their learning.

At home you can…

     Use picture cards and the words first, next, and last to teach your child a simple recipe. You child’s ability to remember the order of events in a process will improve. This game provides a fun situation for learning sequencing. Your child will see that some events happen in a given order. Following a recipe builds skills that will help him remember the order of events. Many tasks such as telling a story, bathing, dressing, or riding a bicycle must be done in a particular order to be successful.

     As you do these activities with your child explain the next step and ask for his/her help. For example “next, we have to put the JELL-O® and the hot water together. How could we do that? “Wait for his/her suggestion and respond: “Right, we put them in the bowl and mix them. That’s the next step. Let me put that on the card.”

En casa usted puede ...

     Usar tarjetas con imágenes y las palabras primero, siguiente y última para enseñar a su hijo/a una receta sencilla. La capacidad de su hijo/a para recordar el orden de los acontecimientos en un proceso que mejorará. Este juego ofrece una situación divertida para aprender secuenciación. Su niño/a verá que algunos acontecimientos suceden en un orden determinado. Siguiendo una receta desarrolla habilidades que le ayudarán a recordar el orden de los acontecimientos. Muchas tareas como contar una historia, bañarse, vestirse, o andar en bicicleta se deben hacer en un orden determinado para tener éxito.

    Al hacer estas acitivites con su hijo/a explique el siguiente paso y piden su hijo/a ayuda. Por ejemplo, "siguiente, tenemos que poner el JELL-O® y el agua caliente juntos. ¿Cómo podemos hacer eso? "Espere que su hijo/a responda:" Claro, los ponemos en el bol y mezclamos. Ese es el siguiente paso. Déjame ponerlo en la tarjeta ".

Week of November 9th 2015

This week…

This week we will look at different people who wear special clothes (uniform). We will focus on things such as who wears a uniform and why? We will also look at the people in our families who wear uniform and share what they do with our class.

As we continue on our journey to learn about clothes we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Please speak with your child about what he/she learned at school every day to reinforce their learning.

Esta semana vamos a ver cómo la ropa se hace y de dónde sacamos la ropa. Nos centraremos en cosas tales como; cómo la gente usa máquinas de coser, tejidos de punto, crochet, cómo la ropa consigue sus diferentes colores, así como qué tipo de ropa encontramos en las tiendas de ropa, cómo están organizada en la tienda su es como nuestros armarios en casa, hay tiendas de ropa en nuestra comunidad, etc.

A medida que continuamos en nuestro camino para aprender sobre la ropa vamos a aprender conceptos y habilidades en alfabetización, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, las artes y la tecnología. También utilizaremos habilidades de pensamiento para investigar, hacer preguntas, resolver problemas, hacer predicciones, y poner a prueba nuestras ideas. At home you can…

Counting games offer your child practice using the words from 1 to 10 (or more, if she/he is ready) in sequence. The numerical system in our country is based on 10. When a child masters 10s, it is a good start on the whole system.

   

 Practice counting with pegs, crayons, or clothespins. You can also use motions such as walking up stairs, hopping on one foot, or clapping your hands to count. Say the number clearly as you illustrate it. Encourage

your child to say the number during the action.

Juegos de contar ofrecen a su hijo/a a practicar el uso de las palabras de 1 a 10 (o más, si ella/el está lista) en secuencia. El sistema numérico en nuestro país se basa en 10. Cuando su niño/a ha aprendido hasta el 10s, es un buen comienzo en todo el sistema.

 Practique contando con las clavijas, crayones o pinzas de la ropa. También puede usar movimientos como subir escaleras, saltar en un pie, o aplaudir sus manos para contar. Diga el número claramente como ilustrarla. Alentar a su hijo/a a decir el número durante la acción.

•        Please do not give your child any snacks with peanuts because we have a student with allergies.
•        There is no school on Wednesday.
•        Class pictures will be taken on Friday, November 13th 2015. Please send your child to school with their uniform.
•        Parent/Teacher meetings will be on November 20^th.
•        Due to state regulation, all students in Pre-K must be vaccinated with the flu shot before January 1^st.

Week of November 2nd 2015

This week…

This week we will look at how clothes is made and where do we get our clothes. We will focus on things such as how people use sewing machines, knits, crochets, how clothes gets its different colors as well as what types of clothes we find in clothing stores, how are clothes organized in a store is it like our closets at home, are there any clothing stores in our community, etc.

As we continue on our journey to learn about clothes we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We’ll also use thinking skills to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Please speak with your child about what he/she learned at school every day to reinforce their learning.

Esta semana…

Esta semana vamos a ver cómo la ropa se hace y de dónde sacamos la ropa. Nos centraremos en cosas tales como; cómo la gente usa máquinas de coser, tejidos de punto, crochet, cómo la ropa consigue sus diferentes colores, así como qué tipo de ropa encontramos en las tiendas de ropa, cómo están organizada en la tienda su es como nuestros armarios en casa, hay tiendas de ropa en nuestra comunidad, etc.

A medida que continuamos en nuestro camino para aprender sobre la ropa vamos a aprender conceptos y habilidades en alfabetización, matemáticas, ciencias, estudios sociales, las artes y la tecnología. También utilizaremos habilidades de pensamiento para investigar, hacer preguntas, resolver problemas, hacer predicciones, y poner a prueba nuestras ideas. Por favor, hable con su hijo/a sobre lo que él / ella aprendió en la escuela todos los días para reforzar su aprendizaje.

At home you can…

 Talk with your child about clothes. Examine the fabrics together and discuss how the clothes were made. Look at the labels to find out where the clothes were made and identify the fabric. Look at pictures from the past and note how the clothing differs from clothing today.

  Teach your child to stitch. Use a large plastic needle and yarn; make stitches on burlap or felt.

 When you shop for clothes, help your child notice how clothes are organized in the store and offer a simple explanation of how you compare prices.

En casa usted puede ...

 Hable con su hijo/a sobre la ropa. Examine los tejidos juntos y discuten cómo se hicieron las ropas. Mira las etiquetas para averiguar dónde se hicieron las ropas e identificar la tela. Miren fotos  del pasado y observe cómo la ropa se diferencia de la ropa de hoy.

  Enseñe a su hijo/a  la puntada. Utilice una aguja grande de plástico e hilo; hacer puntos de sutura en la arpillera o fieltro.

 Cuando usted valla de compras para la ropa, ayudar a su niño/a notifical cómo se organizan la ropa en la tienda y ofrecen una explicación sencilla de cómo se comparan los precios.
